And let's be honest, how many of us haven't lied on a job application, even if a little white lie, even if just trying to avoid details about something that might not want to emphasize?
Now many years after leaving, I have enough in my record I can be proud of, so I can avoid those pesky little details about having spent years in a cult. At the most if the question arises I say I was doing volunteer work, which isn't a lie. But what I don't say is I volunteered my life away for years in a cult you may have heard of called the Children of God. In the beginning years after leaving, it wasn't easy to explain or explain away all those missing years.
