Thank you Beg, for touching on a very important subject. Moderate, f you are born into a world where you only know one thing because crucial information such as your legitimate rights is denied you, how do you have any basis of comparison?
You feel dirty, you feel upset, you feel violated, yet you do not know or have the words to express these feeling because you are told that feeling that means something is wrong with YOU, not what is being done to you.
Do you know what happens then? As a little child who is told that not being overjoyed when they are sexually molested by an adult, not thanking Jesus when they are beaten bloody, means that they are "out of the spirit"--they internalize. I can tell you this is true, because I was such a child. I took it to mean there was something very wrong with me. That I was bad, and "out of it". Subsequently I tried killing myself twice and then stopped eating for nearly four years and almost died that way. All because I thought "If the Family at its worst is better than the system at its best, i don't want to live at all!" I felt worthless, bad and ugly.
How dare you minimise the suffering of a whole generation of children, Moderate, by saying that we didn't know we were abused till we left--we felt it alright, we just didn't know what it was we felt! And saying there are people in "the system" even more abused--so what! Does that erase the crime? That is precisely why the second generation are "offing" themselves, sinking into depression and suffering PTSD, and drug abuse.
May "God" if he is out there have mercy on you on the day you may need it, because no one showed it to us kids when we did.
