Yeah, Berg got his ethnologically strange ideas from some booney-tribes, if at all...granted some very strange practices are still common around the world, but that doesn't mean you have to copy them.

One thing I must say about child brides as a letter (of TF)...most of all I understood that something to be about teens (both male & female!!!) wanting to get together...I don't remember the content well enough, but I didn't think it to be in general an invitation for "uncles"/beasts to prey on teens etc...but may be that was my take.

One quote stood out for me: first of all how many there are and that the common "rhyme" in that village was, that men there wouldn't want educated girls/women..."great" area to grow up in.
