I am thankful - to you - to have that subject again on my agenda to learn more about those studies...I don't know whether you consider the wikipedia expl. good or not:

...but I thought the forbidden toy study might
apply to cults too...as well as exers.

I easily see the parallel to the time of inquisition, only very few brave souls were able
to consistently deny the mostly false charges...it was heartbreaking to read the terror they had to endure.

I am not so sure, that that applies too much to TF though...in your example, the detective could be/is in the know, that the accusations are false/constructed..(a repulsive technique IMO)...with TF it's more a matter of the blind leading the blind....people really thought to be great/wise leaders & not exploiting the "sheep"...may be in some rarer cases some villain could rule for some time of whom everybody thought to be a villain...but leaders in TF were considered in general "pretty wise"...having learned years under some other leadership & they themselves were reading the scriptures with tainted glasses....a reality shift of great proportions.

I am not so sure, whether Berg thought/realised that he was a fake...it would be nice to get other opinions on that one...

I believe they lived in their deluded grandeur & self-worship (even though he constantly wrote: don't praise me , praise the Lord..he thought to be a prophet, King & priest & that was already enough delusion)
