Hi Harriet,
No worries, I think the best course of action for you is just to be normal in your communications with this boy. Aside from a few idiosyncrasies, you’re probably dealing with quite a normal youngster.
Approaching him from the standpoint that he is a poor brain washed kid that needs to be “freed” is probably also not going fly and sit too well with him.
There is really no need to keep up a pretense of not knowing what religious group he is with. The Family is quite open about their beliefs. So, to the contrary, you could and probably should talk about the Family with him. But this would probably require you doing your homework first. You can go here and find out about them: www.thefamily.org
Yes, they’re Christians and believe in Jesus and the Bible, but in a strange and twisted way - in some ways. In others they’re quite main stream and have a lot in common with American Christianity. They believe in being “saved”, accepting Jesus as one’s saviour, fast approaching end time events, etc.
Since you’re new in our community and we often get hit by pranksters from inside the Family coming up with all kinds of different disguises and aliases, would you mind telling us a little more about yourself? For instance how you became aware that your student is part of the Family and how you found this forum? Also, just for interest sake, what online school are your working for?
Take care,
Observer
