MORE WEIRDNESS.The Family leadership has been trained by Berg to always stay "one step ahead" of the rest of the flock.
They took this to mean that whenever things don't happen the way Berg said they would, they have to invent new weirdness to distract the members into something "new" and "different" that appears to be mystical or miraculous.
This is the way of cults.
