I can relate with all you are saying. We were deceived into accepting something we saw worthwhile, our salvation and its altruistic service to others. We were only guilty of ignorance and a good attitude.
When we stayed in we were being cooked at a low temperature and were under their power. At some point we woke up and from that point on, once we were aware of that reality, we became responsible.
While we were under their control, they were the stewards of our actions just like we are responsible for the actions of our children while they are under our control.
It is required of stewards that all are found faithful.
When we became aware that the so-called spiritual food was actually poison, we took action and moved away.
For me, it is not a matter of placing blame but of understanding the whole situation in which we so willingly participated, how we were sucked into it, and then using that knowledge to warn others.
