I am not into politics, but my experience in TF clearly parallels that of people leaving in a place with an oppressive government. I guess you are German and specially sensitive to talk about those days. Most of the world is oblivious to the subtle differences that can be made by expert professors but most people, as outsiders, can recognize the signals of oppression somewhere else. It is the insiders who have trouble seeing those signals and failing to see the signals they soon succumb and suck-up the snot of the state. One either leaves to start all over again somewhere else, or stays and becomes a slave.
