Just wanted to mention there are some pretty strange therapists and therapy groups out there, but ones that work with Women's Centers are referred by them, are generally more stable.
Here are a couple of titles you might want to start with as far as books go:
Take Back Your Life- Janja Lalich
Recovering From Cults and Abusive Relationships- Janja Lalich, Madeleine Landau Tobias
Sometimes reading a book that is a story of someone growing up in a repressive society with draconian control helps. I really enjoyed "Wild Swans"- by Jung Chang, who is a survivor of The Cultural Revolution in China.
Some sites, like Meadowhaven, Rick Ross, and ICSA, have lists of books that are helpful.
