I wish I could remember who said that. It was one of those very famous old comedians, and I think it was in one of the "Inside the Actors Studio" interviews.
What I got out of it is that just laughing at something doesn't mean you have a sense of humor.
If you can laugh when the joke is at your expense, then you have a sense of humor.
