Did he check on the train? Another option, if he is worried about his luggage, he could send it ahead UPS, they are pretty safe and you can buy insurance for highly prized items such as the amplifier. Yes, it's not as nice as the trains in Europe, but my stepdaugther at 16 took Greyhound from Florida to Calif and she survived. Just tell him to watch his back and don't get too friendly with people.
