I joined without any, hardly on me and bearely enough for halfaday. I didn't have such a horrid time in the Family as many did and consider myself fortunate but I have seen the horrors perpetrated on others, the negligence and the abandonment was there. In fact, they were the reasons why I finally separated myself. I could not be a part of such orwellian group. I knew too much.

But something I gained while in the Family was a new life. I was truly born again. They never understood how it had happened and they could not tauch me from then on. Even after I realized some of the phoney teachings and postures of Berg and his croonies, I valued the basic message they delivered - until the message started changing. It was a multilayered message and the surface remained the same but the second layer was beginning to show its corruption, the adulteration of the pure milk of the word.

It was then where your songs came in. Simple yet powerfull images of sanity for a time of sould searching. Sure there were many good musicians in the Family but not all songs were created equal. Yours have been an encouragement in many dark moments even if I don't remember all the words but their spirit is there.

The religion in the Family was a mix of politics and spiritism to keep people entertained and away from the real issues of personal growth. I was lucky because for the most part people did not know enough of my language to handle my questions and there were no letters in my language that could be used to wash my brain. So I was left alone to read my Bible. That is the knowledge we need. Religion is not the problem, organized religion is and a cult-like organization with no self-critique is its worse manifestation.

Now, why did I write this? I guess I just wanted to say a few things about religion, about faith, about your songs which were of such great help and encouragement in many troublesome spots. I think it is a way to say thank you.
