I think the thing that disgusts me is the cover ups and the lack of an outright apology and removal of all child-molesting offenders, some serial offenders that stayed in for way too long before the issue was finally brought up in the media. This problem of course does not confine itself to the catholic church and in every protestant denomination there are pedophiles to be found, marriage permitted or not. I just think it is such a disservice to allow anyone to retain their title as pastor, preacher, priest, therapist, teacher or whatever that molests children. The pope has the power to be more decisive on this issue. Personally, I think it is a breech of trust whether the victim is a small child or a teen because the relationship, ethically, is more father-son, therapist-client, teacher-student, and there are reasons crossing those lines are unethical. Mostly that one person is an authority figure and the other is vulnerable. That makes for an unbalanced relationship. Everything is not black and white. But I see no shades of gray when it comes to child molesters, incestors, etc. I know there are good catholics, and plenty of them in the world.
