Reader, what happened in the Family was that our innocent, pure trust in God was abused by authoritarian figures who USED the Bible to control us and get us to do things against (a) our sane conscience, and (b) against the plain reading of what the Bible REALLY meant.

Some of us left the Family because we finally stopped listening to leaders and believed the Bible had more authority than the MLs. So we left. That was re-establishing a Godly mindset.

In this case, the original problem was that we listened to all the "right" religious reasons and twisted Scriptures, and not until we began reasseting the sane, simple, child-level understanding of the Scriptures, did we cast out the junk and leave. That was "listening to our heart."

Some of use left because we saw so much abuse and hurt and injustice that no matter HOW many verses and Mo quotes were quotes to "justify" it, our sanity, our conscience, our gut-level instinct kicked in and said, "Enough! This is a load of crap!" Again, that was "listening to our heart."

You said, "So what happened to us "Children of God" who were supposed to be born-again
with Jesus Christ reigning in and ruling OUR
HEARTS?"

Well, the problem was that we were SUPPOSED to have Jesus Christ reigning in and ruling our hearts, but we had foolishly allowed David Berg's words to rule and reign in our hearts instead. We came sincerely loving and wanting to serve God but like a slick used car salesman, we were given the "bait and switch" treatment and told in Old Bottles, "Frankly, if there's a choice between reading what God said today or what He said 2,000 years ago, read the MLs." We were told that God's "words for today" were more important than the Bible.

Not until our child-level, gut-level simple common-sense understanding of the Bible kicked back in, did we make the break.

Not until we said, You know, the 'Story of Davidito' really is not Early Church Christianity, and victor camps are not the intent of Matthew 5 and 6, did we "listen to our hearts" and get out of the cult.
