People are so different. Character, personality, backgrounds, so many things. Also, your step daughter's present rosy perspective might be determined by a situation that can easily and quickly change into a situation that's not so great --things can change within one day in TF. The people you live with, where you live, etc.
It doesn't surprise me at all that there are two perspectives that are so different. I don't think it's because of the part of the world she lives in, there may be less VS supervision in some areas, but the modus operendi (sp?) is the same everywhere.
