Where do you get the idea that they don't have opposition? They do and a lot but very little of it is known in the US? Why? Because the US population is the worse misinformed in the whole word before only some isolated tribes in New Zeland and some pueblos in Spain.
Muroroa is a little island in the pacific where France continually tests its atomic weapons (sort of the way the US navy used Viaques in Puerto Rico). Protesters have been around that place for decades trying to stop those trials. Why is not even the US interested? Because of the repercusions at home in the places where radiation is dumped and atomic tests are done, etc. Yes, you are right, all countries do the same type of stuff. Charity starts at home and the first thing that would have to happen in the US is to promote democracy and get the 90% of the population who don't vote to become more engaged and vote.
