I'm not sure that I have accepted my experiences in the family. What I recognize is its importance though I can't see what effects it still has on my daily walk. Reading the boards have been one of the main tools for me to make sense of the little I have advanced. I found that when issues are discussed I learned mroe about myself and my experience. What I find is that most of the time discussing them is painful because our emotions are too much of a player and skews our understanding. I have read many times some threads and comments made by people just to understand why they would upset me but not everybody is up to do it. I like the way Lyle sees it dividing his life into pre, during and post Family periods. I would even add a point or period in time where the "awakening" to the truth took place. For some it took while they were in the Family but for others it happened many years after.

To me, one of the biggest problem is to understand why the shame. I think all that garbage of being selah taught us that but the truth is that the secret surrounding the Family has little to do with persecution and a whole lot more with deceiving people and protecting their criminal activities.
