It is true that "All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" (Edmund Burke). I do believe we were part of a collective madness. It is important to examine our own reasons and weaknesses for joining and staying in suc a cult. It is also important to show ourselves understanding for why we joined, and remember to stop bashing ourselves and realize we were idealists trying to do some good.
You've got a lot of things figured out right, in my opinion!
