From my own experience, I think the ignorance and control is a lack of faith to trust the Lord that God can work his will in any individual. But for the individual who is called to go, and many are, I think it best that he/she go. No use being miserable right? The same for a higher education. No use having your dreams dashed if, by faith and a little get up and go, you can have it all.
There are many solid believers who have been called to go and who were responsible. I can think of the apostles for starts.
