Actually we may agree more than you think. I am open to the idea that almost whatever consenting adults do should be between them, if there are no detrimental effects on the rest of society, casual sex included, even though I do not recommend it.

Strange how we can have "double standards" (for lack of a better term).

Maybe this is a bit like porn, butchers and garbage disposal. What do they all have in common?

We all know that the garbage has to be taken out, but we wouldn't normally recommend our own kids grow up to be garbage men.

We who eat meat know animals have to be slaughtered for our food, but most of us prefer to have them delivered in neat styrofoam and plastic packages rather than have to do the killing ourselves and hear the animals screaming for their lives.

Same thing with porn, I think. I know I can enjoy it, some kinds of it at least, but I wouldn't want the girls to be someone I know. It was pretty upsetting when once I flipped through the porn channels and saw a girl that loooked just like my daughter.

To answer your earlier question, it is not important to me that you or anyone else has exactly the same values as me, but I'd have trouble with it if it were in my own household.

It's not so important to me whether you personally would react this way or that, as I am not expecting that everyone should be like me. But just in case you misunderstood me about the issue I raised, I'll take another stab at it.

Personally I would be upset if for example, I found out a girl I love was continuously raped by an uncle, and that it has affected her to this day. I would be mad at the uncle for what he has done, even though it happened long before I met either of them. Like you say, I would feel closer to the girl I love, and I would feel more protective of her, but I'd have a hard time being natural around the uncle in the next family gathering.

On the other hand, if I found out that the girl I love had been behaving irresponsibly, for example having self-destructive behaviour and having consenting incest with her uncle up until a few months before I met her, I would find it rather disturbing. I would question what kind of girl I am in love with.

Wierd shit, but I found myself in something similar, but not so extreme. It affected me personally, so much so that I questioned my own morals and became such a moralizer. I hope this is just a phase.

Looks like the horse is dead. Let's leave it alone shall we?
