I really hate it

I really hate it when people who seem to be doing so many 'good works' try to make others feel guilty for not. I mean, what the hell, we have freedom of choice in life, and we don't all have to be shining examples of volunteers.

I do my best to be a good person, I help those around me, I give to those who ask of me, I lend advice and a shoulder to cry on to friends who come into my life and need it.

I used to live in a cult, supposedly doing many 'good works', all of which was money and publicity oriented, or just normal run of the day stuff in taking care of kids, doing dishes, cooking, but making myself feel so very very good in that I was 'doing it for the Lord and to win souls'. Baloney!!

Now I do good things because I truly believe they are right to do, and I don't make myself feel guilty for not living the 'missionary' life. I know that if something comes my way, an opportunity for me to help another human being, I'll do it, but I'm not going to run around bragging about it, and telling other people they aren't doing anything glorious because they aren't following my sample in 'volunteer' work.

So, I just hate it when someone tries to glorify their own good deeds and make me feel ashamed for what I'm not doing. By those standards, I would never ever be good enough, which was a reason I left the cult anyway, I could never be good enough for God, it was never enough and there's no end to trying to be 'good'.
