"If a woman leads a cult, does that make the society matriarchical?"

Like I said, Zerby may lead the cult now, but Berg and his twisted theology is still the ultimate authority.

I'm not aware of any truly matriarchal society anywhere anytime. Societies that occasionally have women leaders are still based on patriarchy. There's a trailer currently playing for the new Elizabeth I movie where she says (I'm paraphrasing) "I may have the body of a woman, but I have the courage of a man." In other words, the ideal is still a male conceit. Women in societies led by a woman are usually not any better off, or only make small gains, because of the restrictions imposed on their lives by the dominance of patriarchy, which the female leader merely perpetuates.
