There is a difference regarding resignation of will in a very tightly controlled environment. It is why very practical people can, under the influence of that environment, do things they'd never be willing to do outside of that.
As far as salvation goes, I am at peace with not having to know what God is or is not.
Early Family had beach baptisms. But it was more for the purpose of drawing a crowd to witness to.
As far as the salvation message, I think spirituality dies when a religion takes their core belief and says that there is no other way but their one way to God, or when they outcast non believers who are of good character, based on the fact that they don't believe in the narrowness of that religion- as in believing that all others will go to hell, are infidels, or whatever.
