I watched Occupation 101. Summary: Without justice, there cannot be peace. The video gets to the heart of the current problem, but beyond a call to conscientization, I'm not sure it offers much in the way of solutions. There seems to be a subtext: If the US people are made more aware of the brutality inflicted by Israel on the Palestinians, they will rise up and support a change. I'm not that hopeful. I think many US citizens are willfully ignorant.

This latest West Bank land grab is more of the same thing that's been going on for years. In some ways the ballsiness of the latest land grab is downright shocking, in other ways, not surprising at all. It is difficult to support (in principle) Israel's right to exist while rejecting the ways in which it has chosen and is choosing to exist.

I am aware of how US policies that support Israel fan the flames of oppression and injustice for the Palestinians. That said, I don't feel particularly hopeful about efforts to turn around US policy re: our 51st state. Aren't we the country that occupied territory and annihilated Native American tribal peoples on the path to our manifest desitiny? Or has there been a radical change in our national conscience?
