Reading all the messages below I wonder about the animosity towards Peter. Many people may not like what I am about to say but I believe Peter to be the only one with a conscience out of the whole bunch. He fears something and that fear has woken up his conscience.

His elevation to power is weird but maybe he gave the Bergs a million dollars. He and his wife Damaris were nice enough but always appeared detached from everybody else. So did the Bergs. Maybe they really cousins. I don't know.

What I do know is that the immediate designation of Peter as a leader indicates that his future involvement was not coincidental but fostered by "something" we mere mortals are not aware of. Was it due to family relation, due to a large donation of funds, due to some other sinister reason? I don't think we will ever know. By the way, I also was in A'Dam in those days, and met them several times afterwards.

Because of this, I believe that he is now acting out his remorse and fear to let things out of control.

I see him more human than all of the Bergs and Maria who have been quietly enjoying the ride without ever attempting to use their position and voice to right any wrongs. Deborah has been the only exception.

The leaders that worked under them also deserve similar chastisement for their stupidity and own ambitions. Many names come to memory but it is better to leave their punishment to God. This was the failure in Davidito's logic, who took the role of punisher upon himself.

Maria, of course, the big culprit, could not have done such damage without the intervention of all the enablers. While none of them have come forward, at least Peter is trying to help the current members at the bottom to continue trying to accomplish something rather than failing in a level of desperation that might push them over the edge and replicate Davidito's actions from going upstream towards leadership.

This is the fear that is moving Peter to try to do something. Otherwise, just like Maria and their crew, he would also fade back into retirement and no one would ever hear from him any more.
