With current events including chaos in the Middle East, strong earthquakes and nuclear disasters, the mayan 2012 date turned to doomsday prophecy, there are lots of people that are preparing for the end of days. It reminds me of when the TV movies and emphasis was on Y2K disaster with all kinds of catastrophies presented in fictional pieces. People in real life were stocking up emergency supplies. Then the date came and passed and we were still here. I guess what amazes me is how people still tend to gravitate towards doomsday scenarios often incorporated in their religion, and mini-me cults have leaders who will exploit that fear. Disasters do happen and something catastrophic could happen that would seriously impact the world one day. Throughout history there have been things that were devastating whether super flu's, The Bubonic Plague or other Plagues as well as World Wars and natural disasters. I was reading an article about "sick churches" and even though I am not religious I found it interesting because it listed three things that signal a sick church. One of those things was focus on bad things, prophecies of future calamities that motivate people through fear. Michael Rood, formerly part of The Way International, seems to be influencing many churches and individuals with all kinds of doomsday scenarios. Apparently the earth is supposed to flip in the very near future. Like all false prophets, he has a history of making the real true calendar of coming events with his new movement mixing faux Judaeism/astrology and maybe some Christianity. Not sure about the latter. But there are people buying up silver and gold and preparing for catastrophes, warning loved ones of widespread disaster and doom. Yes, get your Nikes and plastic bags, or your silver and gold, and meanwhile, someone is storing up wealth- ca-ching!
