why is "we walk by faith not by sight" not suggestive of the mysticalby this definition? surely the bible is replete w/ examples of "the direct subjective experience of God."

your critique of ignatius was personal. the examples of calvin and luther were the same. but in fact,i do find a lot to question in their theology as well... esp. calvin. agn.. he said a lot of great stuff, but also , imo, a lot that distorted the image of God we find revealed in Jesus. and the concept of predestination/double predistination. i sometimes joke that i seem to have been predestined to believe in freewill. the idea of a loving God creating souls w/ the express intent that they are doomed by his predestined will to eternal conscious torment seems just about as unthinkable as anything i can think of.

i hope u r predestined to have a nice day!
