I was in DC in the summer of 1972. What was your name then? I cared for one of the leaders after she gave birth, and helped her with the baby at night. I don't remember their names, but I do remember, her husband letting me read letters from Mo that were meant only for leaders. I was a tribe leader for the women there and my betrothed and I were being prepared to lead a colony. Mortichai and I were moved there from Cincinnati, where we were allowed alone time in the evening, no sex, but time to share privately away from the flock. When we arrived at DC and asked for time for ourselves, the leaders frowned on this as "taking our eyes off the Lord" and he was taken away to the Virginia Farm. I left soon after the MO letter came out for the flock to "throw away our Bibles" and use MO letters for witnessing because these words were God's prophecy for the end time. My Grandfather died and my parents sent an airplane ticket to come home, and after the funeral, I never returned. The leaders from the DC colony came to Missouri to convince me to return to no avail. I, like you, am grateful I was spared from the FFing and doctrines that followed. I don't remember Urim. I knew a boy named Uriah in Kentucky. Kenaz sounds familiar from Cincinnati. I came in from an Alton, Illinois "Jesus people" commune that joined the COG in 1971. And from there to Detroit and to the Babe Ranch in Deckersville, MI.
It is sometimes like a dream that never really happened, but I have no regrets. Those steps lead to where I am today, happily married, most of the time, with 3 adult children and a beautiful 3 year old Grandson. I've learned life doesn't have to be perfect to be joyful. Giving Joy away, keeps my cup full!
